Inkventpocalypse Day 5

Inkventpocalypse Day 5

We are on a sort of extended schedule, things are looking good. And very purple. Lots of purple for today's advents!

First up is the Inkvents, no crazy finishes or scents or properties today, but some unusual (and research intensive) subjects.

Inkventpocalypse Day 5 required some research. It's Enigma Stationery Inkvent (Sailor) Mishima Yukari, a warm purple, Diamine Inkvent Teal Ed. Marie Rose (standard) a light pinkish yellow-ochre, and Colorverse Colorvent The Void, an intensely flat, deep purple-blue-black.

Day 5 for inkventpocalypse is not overly complicated for colours, but researching the names (for the doodles) was. First conundrum up is Enigma Stationery Inkvent 2025 which only says Mishima Yukari, which gives no hints as to what it's referring to. Some internet sleuthing dug up that it's from (I think) a collaboration between Sailor and the Japanese food brand Mishima. The name (and doodle) is referring to a rice-seasoning that is made with Perilla or Shiso leaves, which are a deep red-purple colour and when sprinkled on white rice, makes it a purple. I cannot find any reference to this ink except an out of stock listing at M. Lovewell in southern California. It's too bad, it's a pretty purple! (doing the research made me so hungry!)

Next up is another food-related ink colour, and one that needed more research than expected to figure out how to doodle it. Diamine Inkvent Teal Edition day 5 is Marie Rose, a standard ink. It's showing up as more yellow ochre in photos, but it reads a tiny bit warmer/pinker in real life. The purples around it throw off the colour temperature a bit & I haven't figured how to to adjust it in the editing program I'm still learning how to use. That said, Marie Rose is (according to my research) is a seafood sauce made with mayonnaise and tomato based products. I've weirdly never heard it called that, or of it at all, so I'm learning lots of things. The name of the sauce isn't known to be referencing anything, so I tried to doodle some shrimp/prawns and the sauce.

Last inkvent up is the Colorverse Colorvent and it's the second of (three!) purples today. This one is called The Void & doesn't really initially read as purple, but it definitely is. I tried to dilute some of it (it's VERY dense, it sticks to the metal nibs!) to show the undertone, but it didn't really work, you can see some patches of purple in some lighter areas. But this one is super saturated and very lubricated, so it just keeps going. The doodle is of a black instant film print. It was the first thing that came to mind when I thought of a void. The other interesting thing about this ink is it resisted off the printed dots on this paper, which very few inks in three years of doing this have done. Interesting! The door quote for this one is "There are voids in space spanning billions of light-years. Nothing exists there - it is perfectly black." Cheery!

Slightly disorienting close up of the three Day 5 inks.

Next up is the Greenleaf & Blueberry watercolour shells day 5. This is the last purple for today.

Greenleaf & Blueberry Watercolour Advent Calendar in shells, opened day 5 is Manganese Purple, PV16 with the suggestion of painting a "pair of mittens"

This is a dark (when dry) paint, that lightens considerably when wetted, and is just super lovely when painted out. It's Manganese Violet, pigment number PV16. Jackson's Art has a really in-depth page on this pigment/colour and it's history. The shell version here is a bit deeper and cooler than the page at Greenleaf & Blueberry for the half-pan I linked to. I'm not sure if the name being violet v. purple means anything here. It's a really lovely pigment, regardless. I'd love a larger pan of this.

Day 5 Manganese Violet Door closed, with watercolour paint swatch and mittens doodle.

I was able to almost legibly paint a pair of purple mittens with this shell. It was actually a pretty fun challenge. These are TEENY mittens, maybe for a MOUSE?

Last up is the tea! This one was much better, I even drank it all, I hope I can remember what it tasted like!

Day 5 Tea is a light yellow infusion. It's called Brave Bookworm, from Friday Afternoon Tea.

Day 5's decaf Teavent (in pyramid bags) from Friday Afternoon Tea is called Brave Bookworm. It's a fresh, herbal, citrussy, very refreshing and drinkable infusion. It's very citrus from the lemon verbena & citrus peels and green tasting from the linden & green sage. The smell is quite lovely, too. Good palate cleanser after Day 4's hibiscus.

Well, we've gotten another door opened & all the purples purpled for today's inkventpocalypse. Thank you for reading & commenting. We'll be doing this for awhile yet, we haven't even scratched the surface so stick around!

For this entry's question - what do you personally call shrimp/prawn cocktail/seafood/thousand island/Mary Rose sauce? Do you have a favourite way to make a sauce for seafood (if you eat seafood)? If you're not as hungry as I am right now, which of the three purples/violet colours today did you like the most? Do you think The Void is purple?
